Why Choose Braces?

Airways and orthodontics are closely connected. By correcting the bite and aligning the jaw, orthodontic treatment can help open the airway and improve breathing during sleep. At Roosevelt Island Advanced Dentistry, we offer a variety of orthodontic appliances designed to support healthier airflow and promote restful, high-quality sleep for patients of all ages. If you or your child are experiencing jaw misalignment or symptoms of sleep apnea, schedule a complimentary consultation with our team to explore the treatment options available.

The Benefits of Perfectly Aligned Teeth

Braces can help you achieve more than a straight smile. They also offer numerous long-term benefits for your oral health and overall well-being. Some benefits of correcting teeth and jaw misalignment include the following:

  • Improved Oral Hygiene

Crowded or crooked teeth can make it difficult to clean every surface properly, which increases the risk of cavities and gum disease. Braces align your teeth, making them easier to brush and floss—helping you maintain better oral health long-term.

  • Preventing Dental Wear and Tear

When teeth don’t line up correctly, uneven pressure while chewing can cause premature wear, chips, cracks, or enamel erosion. Braces correct your bite and distribute pressure evenly, protecting your teeth from unnecessary damage.

  • Alleviating Jaw and Muscle Pain

A misaligned bite places strain on the jaw muscles and joints, which may lead to TMJ disorders, headaches, or even neck pain. By properly aligning your bite, braces help ease jaw tension and reduce discomfort.

  • Enhanced Confidence and Self-Esteem

A straight, beautiful smile can boost confidence and make you feel more comfortable in social and professional settings.
Braces help you achieve the aligned smile you’ve always wanted, improving both appearance and self-esteem.

  • Long-Term Investment in Oral Health

Braces are more than just cosmetic—they’re a proactive step toward protecting your dental health. By addressing misalignment early, you can prevent costly treatments later in life, such as fillings, crowns, or extractions caused by uneven wear or decay.

Parts of Braces

Braces are a time-tested solution for straightening smiles—and today, they’re more comfortable and discreet than ever.
When you first get braces, you may have questions about the different parts and how they work. Here’s a quick guide:

  • Archwires

Archwires connect all the brackets across your teeth, applying gentle pressure that gradually shifts teeth into alignment.

  • Micro-Mini Brackets

Brackets are the small stainless-steel squares bonded to the front of your teeth. At Roosevelt Island Advanced Dentistry, we use micro-mini brackets that are about 30% smaller than traditional ones, allowing more of your natural tooth structure to show. We also offer clear brackets for a more discreet option.

  • Elastics

Elastics are the small bands placed around each bracket. At each visit, you’ll have the chance to choose new colors—whether you want a fun, expressive look or a more subtle style, your elastics can be customized to fit your smile goals.Note: While some orthodontists use spacers (separators) and bands around the back molars, we prioritize patient comfort at Roosevelt Island Advanced Dentistry and do not use these appliances.
